You really ought to go. Or, make it to the Labor Day celebration where you will see the new Cadets marching in straight lines after just one month of training. Recent changes bar local politicians from using the event for canvassing, but it is still one of the longest and proudest parades in the region.
The Dog River runs through Northfield alongside many wild explanations for how it got its name. The river once powered a series of mills, some of which are still visible today in the historic downtown. Today, the Dog is better known as a great place for fly fishing, swimming or a summer afternoon afloat on whatever raft you can procure.
