The holiday season is upon us. Everyone is making their lists and checking them twice. Local restaurateurs, inns, and hotels are putting the final touches on their holiday menus and lodging packages. There are quite a number of excellent restaurants to enjoy in Central Vermont throughout the year. Many of these popular restaurants have offered Thanksgiving day meals in years past. We wait with anticipation to peruse their holiday menus for 2022 when they are posted.
While looking over the holiday menus already posted from the restaurants open on Thanksgiving in Central Vermont in 2022 we are reminded not to wait too long in making a decision. According to Bill Withers, “good things might come to those who wait, not to those who wait too late”. And although he was most likely singing about relationships in the popular song from years past, this is sage advice this holiday season. If you see something you like, we would suggest making a reservation soon when they are still available. Don’t be left out in the cold and miss out on a mouth watering holiday feast of slow roasted Vermont turkey with apple sausage stuffing and sage gravy!
Open in Past Years, They May be Again (be on the look-out)
Kismet (in 2020): Located in Montpelier, Vermont this restaurant featured a traditional holiday menu complete with a brined boneless turkey roast and a roasted-ginger squash along with other unique and delicious entrées and sides to choose from in 2020. The holiday menu was available to order for pick-up or delivery on November 25th, 2020 when placing order by November 21st. Keep this restaurant on your lookout and plan accordingly for 2022.
Waybury Inn (in 2020): This Middlebury inn and restaurant offered individual takeout dinners and larger family style takeout dinners in 2020. Additionally, they were open for on-site dining on Thanksgiving Day. The staff is taking a short vacation from November 1st- November 8th, 2022 after which we hope they’ll be posting their Thanksgiving menu options for 2022 (recent daily specials have included a charbroiled duck breast w/bacon jam & apple butter). Keep this restaurant on your lookout schedule (check their site after November 8th).
Open in 2022 for Dining On-Site and Catering (a sure bet)
Michael’s on the Hill (in 2022): Located in Waterbury Center, Michael’s on the Hill was opened by the husband and wife team of Michael and Laura Loeti in 2002. Michael was born, raised & trained in Switzerland and has brought a lifetime of culinary experiences to the table, as is reflected in the inspiring menu. Curbside pickup & catering is offered for the holidays. Menu selections range from complete take & bake family dinners to individual mason jar appetizers.
The Equinox Golf Resort & Spa (in 2022): Start a new holiday tradition with a weekend getaway to The Equinox Golf Resort & Spa in Manchester, Vermont. This Southern Vermont resort is taking reservations for lodging and a Thanksgiving brunch served from 11:30am-3:30pm on Thanksgiving day. The brunch buffet is $64 for adults and $32 for children ages 5-12 (advance purchase is required). The buffet includes a chef-attended omelet station, chef-attended pumpkin pancakes, a carving station (featuring local tom turkey, prime rib, and pork loin) whipped potatoes with buttermilk & Vermont butter, and many other tempting epicurean delights. It is a medium drive (100 miles) from Central Vermont to the Equinox resort, so be sure to make a lodging reservation so you and your family can enjoy a full night’s sleep after the holiday feast.
The Green Mountain Inn (in 2022): Located in Stowe, a short 20 mile drive north of Montpelier, this Northern Vermont inn has been offering food and lodging to holiday travelers since 1833. And this holiday season is no exception. They are offering a Thanksgiving dining and lodging package with rates starting at $286 per person. The package includes two nights of lodging, a daily country breakfast, and a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The Thanksgiving dinner will be served at their 18 Main Dining room and is also available without lodging for $65 per person and $32.50 for children 12 & under. The dinner includes homemade fresh bread (honey oatmeal, pumpkin walnut) soups, salads, and several entrées including a traditional Slow Roasted Vermont Turkey (with apple sausage stuffing, butter whipped potatoes, peas, butternut squash purée, Cape Cod cranberry sauce, and sage gravy). You can choose to end your holiday meal with pumpkin pie, warm homemade apple pie, Vermont maple walnut pie, or a chocolate torte. Delicious!
